Outreach Programs :: Outreach Programs

In addition to casework and summary advice, the Legal Clinics provide public legal education to the broader community. We are actively engaged in community organizing, outreach services and law reform activities.

Community Development

We will work with individuals, groups and agencies to provide workshops and training on community development issues such as organizing new community programs, setting up tenants associations, or setting up organizations and associations to deal with issues of importance to the low-income community.

Law Reform

We will also work with other agencies to lobby federal, provincial, municipal and local government for changes to proposed legislation and policies that affect our community.

Please contact your nearest community legal clinic if you have any interesting community projects you are interested in developing or if you would like to arrange for us to come and meet your group.

South Ottawa Community Legal Services and West End Legal Services of Ottawa helped establish the Ottawa Tenant Reform Movement (OTRM) in 2004. The group is made up of several tenant groups, social and community agencies working together to address the proposed changes to the Tenant Protection Act.

Public Legal Education

Do you need someone to come out and speak to your group? We offer workshops and training sessions to members of the community to inform them of their rights and how the laws affect them.

The South Ottawa Community Legal Services regularly plays the Wheel of Justice with students who will soon be graduating from high school.

The University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic holds workshops on Small Claims Court matters, debtor/creditor issues and police powers.

The Clinique juridique francophone de l'Est d'Ottawa is working with the Francophone community to raise awareness of their legal rights.

All Clinics give presentations on tenants' rights.

The Clinics distribute their Newsletters to a large number of members of the Clinic as well as dropping them off to different venues where people gather (libraries, community resource centres, etc.) We all have pamphlets about many different legal subjects. Feel free to call the clinic nearest you to see if they have the information you are looking for.

If your group would like to participate in the Poverty Game, call the South Ottawa Community Legal Services for more information.
